Skippy goes to surgery

G’Day! My name is Paul Humble (aka Aussie Paul). I am one of the large animal vet at Daleside Veterinary Group as well as one of the directors and today my dog, Skippy, is going in for Knee surgery.

About 2 months ago Skippy was out chasing her favourite ball around the park when she stopped and turned suddenly, damaging the cruciate ligament in her knee. We have been giving her cage rest hoping that her leg will heal with time and rest, but unfortunately this has not worked and the time has come to fix the damage to her knee.

Skippy is now 9 years old . We have had her since she was about 6 months old when we rescued her after she was brought into the clinic after being hit by a car. The traffic accident broke her pelvis and back left leg, Rowena operated on her fixing both her pelvis and broken leg (great job Rowena), and she has been a great companion and Daleside Vets mascot ever since.

What makes this operation more delicate is that the knee she has damaged is the knee on her good leg, which means her previously broken and now slightly arthritic back leg is going to have to support her while she recovers from her latest operation

As you can imagine, I and the rest of her extended family are having a tense day waiting to see the outcome of her surgery. I have great faith in Adrian and the rest of the team who will do a great job (No, I am not doing the surgery) and the surgery will go smoothly. But we all have a nervous wait while any of our loved ones go under an anaesthetic and surgery

So my plan is to keep you all posted with regular blogs with her progress after the operation, so watch this space.

Thanks Paul

“Best vets in Wrexham. Always helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Friendly staff that go out of their way to not only care for your pet, but also to keep the pets carer fully informed every step of the way. They have always looked after and treated my 2 yorkies Lulu and Pebbles amazingly, they saved Lulu’s life, words can never describe how grateful I am to them. I Would recommend this veterinary practice to everyone and anyone.”
