Welcome to our brand new weekly roundup!
This week we saw a young Siberian husky who had managed to get her paws on a packet of chewing gum. As a result we had to make her sick! Most chewing gum now contains an ingredient named xylitol which is an artificial sweetener. While this is perfectly harmless for us, it is quite toxic for dogs. Fortunately for this little pup, her owners got her to us right away and we were able to induce vomiting before she had any adverse effects. This goes to show how many toxins are around our pets on a daily basis and how important it is for us to be aware of them. Look out for more advice on toxicity in our winter newsletter coming soon.
The lovely little dog in the picture is Lola, who is a successful member of our Chub Club. This week, with the help of our team (and lots of hard work from her owner), she has achieved her target weight. She has lost nearly 18% of her initial body weight! Lola will now be able to enjoy a happier and healthier lifestyle. If your cat or dog is carrying a little extra weight you can sign them up to our Chub Club completely free of charge!
Our new graduate vet Morgan carried out her first rabbit castration this week, and she did a great job. She really enjoyed operating on and treating a rabbit and she is keen to do more and learn as much as she can about rabbits. Rabbit neutering is something that often gets overlooked, but is just as important as it is for cats and dogs (particularly if keeping them in a pair). There are lots of health and behaviour benefits to neutering your bunny so if you would like to find out more then give us a call to chat to one of our nurses.
“Best vets in Wrexham. Always helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Friendly staff that go out of their way to not only care for your pet, but also to keep the pets carer fully informed every step of the way. They have always looked after and treated my 2 yorkies Lulu and Pebbles amazingly, they saved Lulu’s life, words can never describe how grateful I am to them. I Would recommend this veterinary practice to everyone and anyone.”
